Entries: everything important in one application

Entries (Suite Entries) is our end application for the WoltLab Suite and bundles functions that were previously distributed across several plugins. The application ties in with "Showcase" and incorporates proven concepts from "Points of Interest" and the "Link Database" into a modern, maintainable code base.
Practical relevance: We already use Entries for the "Products" page on our own website.

Why Entries

  • Clear structure, flexible display: Categories, each with their own list view. Choose between "Minimalist/List," "Detailed," "Tiles," and "Gallery."
  • Customizable inputs: Fields and input fields can be selectively shown or hidden.
  • Tab system: General, input fields, comments, and optional tabs per field. Priorities can be controlled.
  • Boxes revised: System boxes including statistics. Label filters can be placed using options, can also be used without a sidebar.
  • BBCode for entries: Display by parameter (detail, tile, noimage) or by category default.
  • Guest posts possible: Entries by guests with optional moderation approval.
  • Moderation directly in the list: Single and multiple actions ("clipboard") for unlocking, deleting, recommending.
  • Filtering and sorting: By categories, languages, and custom fields.

Planned expansions

  • Left extension: Preview images, internal and external links, click counter, redirect page.
  • Address extension: Functions from POI with a modern interface, planned with radius search.
  • Reviews: Ratings for any entries.
  • Automatic forum topic, warnings, advanced search: Integration of familiar functions based on entries.

Roadmap

The end application and extensions for addresses, links, and ratings are largely complete. Release is planned for the near future. Extensions for automatic forum topics, warnings, and advanced search will follow.
Importer: For complex inventory data, we expect several weeks to months of development time. Time estimates are approximate.

Transition from existing plugins

  • Replacement: Entries and extensions will gradually replace "Showcases," "Points of Interest," and the "Link Database."
  • Importer: Content is transferred to entries via the importer. The goal is a smooth transition without any loss of information.
  • Transition phase:
    • Bug fix updates for existing plugins during the transition.
    • Compatibility maintenance to the extent necessary to enable a smooth transition.
  • Goodwill when switching: Discounts are planned for switching after the importers are published. For very recent purchases, we will consider individual solutions.

Technical basis

Entries is based on a modern, modular code base, including components from the Link database. This facilitates maintenance, updates, and enhancements. New functions can benefit multiple use cases without duplication of effort.
